Rovos Rail The Pride of Africa
Step aboard the wood-paneled coaches of Rovos Rail that combine the opulence of pre-war travel with subtle modern innovations. Two beautifully rebuilt “Pride of Africa” trains of up to twenty coaches, half of which date back to the twenties and thirties. Each coach can accommodation 72 passengers. Guests are accommodated in the most spacious train suites in the world with fine wood paneling, period Edwardian features as well as every modern convenience and comfort. The air-conditioned suites carry two people offering the option of twin or double beds in a Royal Suite, a Deluxe Suite or one of the Pullman Suites. Traditional furnishings and period décor ensure an atmosphere of elegance and grandeur in the Dining, Lounge and Observation cars.
Pretoria – Cape Town or vice versa (2 nights)
Departing from Pretoria, travel via the stark beauty of the Northern Cape, stopping en route to view Kimberley’s “Big Hole” and the Mine & Diamond Museums. Continue on to Cape Town.
Pretoria to Cape Town (African Collage)
(8 nights – once a year in June)
This trip takes the train via Malalane, Hluhluwe-Imfolozi, Durban, Blomfontein, Port Elizabeth, Oudtshoorn and George then on to Cape Town with various off-train excursions en route.
Pretoria – Victoria Falls Livingstone or vice versa (2 nights)
This journey takes guests from Pretoria northwards to Messina before crossing the border into Zimbabwe and on to the mighty Victoria Falls via Bulawayo.
Pretoria – Durban or vice versa (2 nights)
Departing Pretoria, meander down the Drakensberg escarpment and Lowveld, towards the Kruger National Park. The train continues through Swaziland where an exciting game drive may be enjoyed in the Mkhaya Game Reserve. The next stop is the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park for another game experience before arriving in Durban.
Cape Town – George or vice versa (1 night)
Departing Cape Town, travel through mountain passes, vineyards, wheatfields and race horse stud farms to the coast and onto the town of George where you may opt to ride the restored Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe along 67km of spectacular coastal scenery to Knysna (subject to operation)
Cape Town – Dar-es-Salaam or vice versa (13 nights, once a year in July)
The annual 14 day epic journey through South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Tanzania to the lush and exotic East Coast. Highlights en route include Kimberley, Pretoria, the Kruger National Park, Victoria Falls, Lusaka, the Luangwa Valley and the incredible Tazara Railway before arriving in Dar-es-Salaam.
Pretoria – Swakopmund or vice versa (6 nights, once a year in May)
This 7 day journey takes passengers 3,400 km from the savannahs of the Highveld to the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. Highlights include Kimberley and the ‘Big Hole’, the spectacular Fish River Canyon, the stark beauty of the Kalahari and Namib Desert, Windhoek and an overnight stay at a game lodge bordering the Etosha Pan.
